Courts in two border provinces charged five people with drug trafficking yesterday after separate raids on two homes in which police seized more than 1,400 methamphetamine pills manufactured in Myanmar, officials said yesterday.

Phin Sindeth, chief of the Banteay Meanchey provincial anti-drug police office, said that Kea Kosal, 46, Him Sarin, 49, 15-year-old Pheap Sopheak and 35-year-old Thy Tha were charged with drug trafficking by the provincial court after being found in possession of about one kilogram of methamphetamine pills at a house in the province’s O’Chrou district.

“They were arrested while they were selling drugs,” he said, adding that police had seized 902 methamphetamine pills, one car and two motorcycles during the raid.

Meanwhile, Stung Treng provincial police officer Hor Vuthy said that Keh Bunmy, 45, was charged with drug trafficking after he was arrested on Friday for allegedly smuggling 562 methamphetamine pills across the Lao border.

Police are searching for other suspects who fled during the raid, Hor Vuthy added.
